Dissertation research: Image-based rendering of large historical image collections

The project centers on the continuous immersive visualization and navigation through time and space of historical image collections. A co-visualization of the historical photos within a 3D model of the photographed scene is proposed. The research aims for:

  1. the treatment of scientific obstacles (large data volume, heterogeneity between images, distortions, and data uncertainties) that appear when old pictures are placed in a contemporary 3D environment;
  2. the visualization (saliently and spatially) of these photographs.
